End Citizens United Says No to Big Money

There’s a PAC (political action committee) that has the main goal of doing away with Citizens United entirely. It claims that it’s going to put millions of dollars to good use during the upcoming 2018 midterms. The group’s objective is to help Democrats who believe in reforming campaign financing. It wants to assist them with the election process. The committee revealed on Tuesday that its main 20 focal points will be Representatives Duncan Hunter, Mimi Walters, Darrell Issa and Daria Rohrabacher, among others. These four figures come from a watch list that indicates California House members who are in any kind of danger.

Tiffany Muller is the executive director for End Citizens United, the political action committee that is behind all of this. She indicates that the Golden State is a symbol of many of the finest openings available. She also states that it has some of the most awful precedents out there, too. She acknowledged that Duncan Hunter is being investigated at the moment for possible campaign money misuse. She also acknowledged that Darrell Issa has been given donations from various telecommunications businesses.

End Citizens United was created back in 2015. The group used roughly $25.5 million during the election in 2016. Muller stated that the committee is getting ready to focus on voters who are independent. It’s going to focus on voters who make political money their biggest areas of concentration.

Information provided by the Federal Election Commission indicates that End Citizens United has gotten access to $115 million so far. This figure is accurate as of the end of October in 2017. Leaders for the organization refused to indicate the exact sum of money they think that they’ll be using to cover Caifornia’s four districts.

This committee has backed prominent people who are part of the Democratic party in the past. It has backed candidates including Hillary Clinton, Jon Ossoff, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke, Russ Feingold and Zephry Teachout. End Citizens United had the distinction of being among the biggest external organizations to assist in the election processes of both Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Maggie Hassan. This was for the election in 2016. The group put a total of $4.4 million in for these efforts.

End Citizens United was born out of the simple desire to stop the concept of political “Big Money.” It strives on a daily basis to turn around a United States Supreme Court decision that took place back in 2010. This decision was for a case called Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. This decision took away regulation restrictions that applied to expenditure organization spending for certain candidates. End Citizens United keeps its attention on all different parts of the United States. It runs out of Washington, D.C.

End Citizens United Raises $4 Million In The First Three Months

Before 2008, James Bopp was just a lawyer with no significant influence in the American politics. However, this status changed faster than most people had anticipated. In that year, Bopp and his organization, Citizens United, filed their first case with the Supreme Court. The group was seeking the right to air a film named “Hillary: The Movie.’ Before then, it was against the law to air such content, as there was no indication of who paid for its production and airing. The movie was based on claims that Hillary Clinton was a ‘European Socialist’ and had no space in the American political scene. The court ruled in the favor of Bopp and Citizens United.

The success of the lawsuit was laughed upon, but created the ground for the lawyer to push his agenda forward. His goal was to redefine campaign finance laws in the United States. Before 2014, corporations were not allowed to contribute to political campaigns. Such money could only be derived from individuals. In that case, Bopp and his organization successfully argued against this claim noting that the laws of the United States laws recognize corporations as ‘individuals.’ The lawyer won the campaigns allowing for the formations of super PACs in the run up to last year’s presidential elections. James Bopp has been involved in significant cases such as the right-to-life case in 1982.

However, Citizens United is not enjoying an easy life despite its previous success in the courts. End Citizens United has been founded to counter the activities of this group and prevent the flow of ‘dirty’ corporate money into US politics. The group, now two years old, has been involved in active campaigns seeking to reverse the ruling passed by the Supreme Court that allowed for the creation of a super PACs. End Citizens United hopes to achieve this objective through sending friendly candidates to both the Congress and Senate. This approach saw the group launch a strong online funding drive that helped in raising over $4 million in the first three months of the campaign. End Citizens United targets to raise $35 million before the 2018-midterm elections for the congress. This money will be used to finance the campaigns of democratic candidates who are supporting their constitutional amendment goal.

End Citizens United needs the support of at least 2/3 of the both Congress and Senate to achieve this constitutional amendment that would ban corporations from financing political campaigns. Although the last constitutional amendment in the United States was conducted in the early 90s, the group is confident that it will achieve this goal. The organization’s president and executive director, Tiffany Muller, noted that many people continue to support End Citizens United's objectives. Out of 100,000 individuals who have already donated to the group this year, 40,000 are new donors. He promised donors that the money would be used strictly towards financing the group’s goal.

Betsy DeVos is a billionaire who is also a philanthropist. Her primary activism has been in the field of education. I understand that this comes from the premise that Betsy DeVos has sent her kids to private schools. She has understood and appreciated how studying at private schools has impacted her kids.

Now Betsy DeVos would like to extend the same facility to other kids too. She is calling it as “educational choice.” I believe that this is her way of diverting public funds to private as well as religious schools. She is trying to privatize school education this way. One way of doing this is by installing the school voucher programs that can divert public funding.

I understand that this activism of Betsy DeVos has prompted Donald Trump to appoint her as education secretary. She is going to head the Department of Education in his Office. She will be responsible for setting up the education policy. I am well aware that Betsy DeVos believes in providing equal opportunity for education to all and this will be well reflected in the education policy set out by her.

End Citizens United Makes A Wave In Campaign Finance Reform

The landscape of American elections was forever changed with the Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in the Citizens United v. F.E.C. trial on msnbc.com. It created legality to the idea that corporations can be thought of as people and allowed billionaires to openly spend an untraceable, unlimited amount of money on special interests on alternet.org. Because of this Supreme Court ruling, there is no more transparency and billionaires are allowed to tip the political scales in whichever way suits them.

Thus, End Citizens United was created. In 2015, this political action committee was created solely by grassroots donors from all over the country. End Citizens United is dedicated to reforming the country’s campaign finance system and reversing the horrible side effects of Citizens United. They are determined to show voters, candidates, and elected officials that the grassroots in this country are fighting back against the billionaires who think they can buy control of our political system.

End Citizens United plans to combat big money within the political sector and destroy the rigged aspects of our political system by passing state ballot measures and placing campaign finance reform champions in office. While they don’t discriminate against Republicans, this organization on LinkedIn focuses mainly on Democrats who are more likely to be in favor of reform of the political system. Most of the leaders of the grassroots fight are Democrats, willing to fight the rule that the Republicans currently have in Congress.

Just one month after End Citizens United finally launched, they raised more than $2 million from small donors, estimating that they would earn a total of $30 million for the entire cycle. These donations would act as a catalyst in the group’s main objective of passing a constitutional amendment to reverse the Citizens United decision made by the Supreme Court in 2010. Within that month after the launch, End Citizens United received over 325,000 signatures on their petition to demand that Congress pass the legislation.

To reach out to potential supporters, End Citizens United joined with “Ready for Hillary” prior to the 2016 election. This partnership allowed them access to an email list of more than 4 million people, strengthening their cause. Soon after their launch, the group announced that it would endorse 11 Democratic candidates like Colorado’s Senator Michael Bennet and Wisconsin’s Senator Russ Feingold.

With many other groups that have focused on campaign finance reform, many thought End Citizens United would go unnoticed. But this group in particular addresses a hole in the conversation that addresses the political side of the issue by getting people elected to fight their fight, setting them apart from the rest. End Citizens United backs candidates who will stand up for reform and those who are under attack by the billionaires who think they will buy their way into political power.
