Social Gaming May Soon Catch Up to Console Gaming

With the planned release of the Nintendo Switch gaming console, tech analysts believe that social gaming could get a major boost in 2017. In fact, some analysts believe that social gaming could soon start taking market share away from console and PC titles.

The Nintendo Switch is an intriguing move by the respected Japanese electronics giant. The hardware specs and the portability of the console do not suggest that Nintendo plans to compete directly against Sony PlayStation 4 or the upcoming Microsoft Project Scorpio, which are heavy on hardware specs and processing power.

The Switch comes across as a special tablet that has been configured to play games, but not necessarily AAA titles such as Halo, Mafia 3 or Watchdogs. The few titles that have been announced for the Nintendo Switch are multiplayer games, but they are nothing like Call of Duty; these are co-op titles that call for players to be social in the sense that they are better off sitting next to each other with controller in hand.

In essence, the Nintendo Switch is a throwback to the era when young players used to gather in each other’s living rooms to enjoy highly competitive games. Interestingly, interviews with Nintendo spokespersons indicate that social gaming features such as networking, leaderboards and badges will become standard. There may even be a new social network for Switch players who wish to link their existing Facebook or Twitter accounts.

Nintendo is betting on the power of social gaming for the success of its new, unique console. Whether the company can pull it off remains to be seen.

Nintendo Switch Seeks to Breathe New Life Into Social Gaming

Information about the Nintendo Switch is finally available, and now we all know how the new dual-function console will perform, for better or worse. Regardless of personal opinion on the console though, it’s pretty clear Nintendo is going for a social gaming revolution.

The portable nature of the console itself shows this. It becomes super easy to pop your console out of its dock, take it to your friend’s house, and fire up some games. Two players can even play on one console, so your friend doesn’t even necessarily have to have a Switch themselves to get in on the action.

This is huge, as before social gaming with friends was a massive pain, requiring the lugging of your console and all peripherals. Now you just bring a little tablet-sized device.

Nintendo also has an advantage just in their intellectual property. Nintendo’s characters are those we all grew up with, and the want to play those kinds of games with friends again is an overpowering positive for the company.

That’s not to say the Switch will be perfect on day one. Launch titles are very few and far between. Accessories are way overpriced. Sure, those are concerned. But if there’s one indisputable fact, it’s that Nintendo is king of handhelds. And this console is essentially a handheld. And a console. It’s the best of both worlds, and hopefully that’ll help provide a well-needed boost to social gaming.

Nintendo Charts New Path with Single-Screen Switch

One of the leading video games company seems to be taking a new direction with its upcoming game. Japan-based Nintendo is set to release a new video game named the Switch. However, the new invention will be a remarkable shift from what the company has offered its customers for more than a decade.

Open to Screen Option

Unlike former designs which incorporated two screens, the new design will have a single screen. It has its own benefits including enabling portability of home console games. In addition, it allows users to go wireless, or output the game on the TV.

A company representative as quoted in kotaku.com confirmed that the new game will be indeed be single-screen with options for choosing the screen on which to play it. It is expected to inspire the Nintendo designers to be more creative and productive than they have been with the two-screen games. It is hoped that users will be allowed to play a game on either small or big display. This means they can choose to play it on the mobile or as a home game.

Single-screen drawbacks

Nintendo’s new direction, however, has several shortcomings. One of the biggest is denying users the ability for viewing of both the inventory and the main game simultaneously. In addition, users cannot view the game in two camera angles as in the case with two-screen games.

However, double-screens have not always been perfect, especially when users have to struggle in order to see both screens. Sometimes, it may be a little difficult to see the TV screen and controller simultaneously. This happened with Nintendo’s Wii U, which is a further evidence that single-screen gaming systems may not be a wrong direction.

The Switch Will Be Used For Online Social Gaming

It has been announced that Nintendo will be adding an online service to their new Switch console. A subscription to their service will be needed in order to play online games on their console.

They will also release a smartphone app that will accompany their Switch console. This application will allow users to chat and keep track of their online contacts in Nintendo’s network. The app will also allow users to set up gaming appointments and send gaming invitations.

There will be free game giveaways as an incentive to sign up to the service. There will also be discounts given when purchasing new games or down-loadable content.

Nintendo will give out the service for free upon release but they have plans of adding a paid subscription. Gamers can still buy games from their online shop without a subscription. Those with expired subscriptions may also contact their friends.

The Nintendo Switch has a worldwide release date this March. It was officially announced in just October of 2016. The switch is a hybrid of a tablet and a normal gaming console that hooks up to the television. The controllers are also foldable into a traditional game controller and a remote. The game controllers will also have motion sensors just like the Wii.

Some of their flagship games will include a new Fire Emblem game, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart and other familiar titles. Call of Duty will also be releasing a title for the console.

Many game stores are taking preorder payments for the Switch. It has been reported that many Game Stop stores have been completely sold out of their preorders. Even many of the online sellers have been sold out in the United States. There are still some accessories and games that are still available for preorder at the moment.

Social Gaming Taken to a New Level by Nintendo Switch

Social gaming has become a very popular way for gamers to spend their time. More people than ever before prefer to play games in a social environment that allows them to communicate with other players during the game. This is a much more enjoyable experience than simply playing against the game itself. The great demand for social gaming has caused many companies to make it their top priority. Therefore, Nintendo is getting ready to launch the Switch. The legendary video game company is promoting the console as the next step in social gaming technology. It remains to be seen if it can actually live up to the hype.

There is no question that the Nintendo Switch looks like it will be a very exciting console when it eventually does hit the market. However, some early reviews are pointing out some of the flaws in this social gaming console. One of the biggest problems that will turn off many consumers is the price tag. The Switch will retail for $300 in the United States. This might not be so bad if there were more titles available. Unfortunately, Nintendo is not rolling out their new console with a wide variety of launch titles. The people who can afford to plunk down $300 will not have many games to choose from. Therefore, it might be a better idea to wait a few months and see the games that will eventually be released. This will allow you to see if the Nintendo Switch will be a worthwhile investment.

Social gaming only works when many other people are playing the same game that you are. Therefore, the success of the Switch will depend on it becoming popular. This will not be known until a few months after it is released. Once again, waiting to buy this console would be wise.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to Revive Multiplayer Battling Mode

With Nintendo’s new Switch console hitting store shelves in less than two months, they have been carpet bombing the press with details about the system and its library of games and launch titles. Among the initial wave of titles for Nintendo’s seventh generation console comes yet another installment in the Mario Kart franchise in the form of a “Deluxe” version of Mario Kart 8.

During Nintendo’s recent press conference to discuss the Switch, the company’s highlight reel featured a trailer for the game and gave some hints as to what makes it the deluxe edition:New arenas whose designs resemble the early games’ Battle Mode stages.
• New tracks to race different vehicles on.
• New characters to play as.
• New arenas whose designs resemble the early games’ Battle Mode stages.

The point about arena battles is especially notable; the original “Super Mario Kart,” released on the SNES, allowed players to compete in duels within enclosed areas. These modes started each character off with three balloons attached to his kart; every blow from a high velocity shell, collision with a Starman-powered opponent’s kart and wipe-out from running over a banana peel would cost that player a balloon and they would be eliminated from the match upon losing all balloons. The Nintendo 64 installment, “Mario Kart 64,” added onto this feature by including 4 player versions that improved the social aspect of its gameplay offerings. Later games would move battling away from arenas and into a number of racing courses that were either modified or left unchanged. “Mario Kart: Double Dash,” on the Nintendo “GameCube,” featured co-optional racing with two characters switching between the roles of driver and using the various power-up items.

While much information regarding Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was teased and briefly glimpsed upon, the exact release date for this latest kart racing title remains unknown.
